Morning Sex: Benefits, Tips, Positions, and More

By ASTROGLIDE Team Sex Tips Morning sex is a natural stress reliever

Beep, beep, beep. The morning alarm clock is the most dreaded sound, but not for long. Instead of hitting the snooze button, you can have something to look forward to…great morning sex. You might think that the first sip of your coffee is the best way to start the morning, but we can one-up that. Add a little sugar and spice to your sex life before you even get out of bed.  Before you roll out of bed, roll around with a partner (or solo). It’s never too early to get it on. In fact, the morning might just be the key to the best sex of your life. Truthfully, there are only positives to adding sex into your morning routine, and we’re here to inspire you. It’s time to rise and shine and wake up your senses with the pleasures of sex in the A.M.!

Great Morning Sex Everyday Keeps the Doctors Away

We know this isn’t the phrase, but it’s better this way. And it’s the truth! There are nothing but positive benefits to adding sex into your morning routine. Whether with a partner, solo, or both, the morning is the perfect time to get it on. There are numerous health benefits to inviting sexual activity into your life, including the following:

It’s an early morning workout: Similar to sex, exercise has many positive effects on your health, including having more energy throughout the day, improving mental health, lowering the risk of diabetes, and more. So, combining the two is the best of both worlds. Researchers at Harvard found that while sex is not as strenuous as running on the treadmill, it still counts as mild to moderate in terms of exercise intensity. And, considering that sex burns about five calories a minute, we say give it a try!

A natural stress reliever: Everyone can use some extra stress relief, and sex is the answer. A 2010 study found that sexual activity is a type of natural reward that reduces stress responses. Those who engage in sex appear to have less stress. Similarly, “stress-buffering actions can be mimicked by other types of naturally pleasurable activities (e.g., sexual activity).” By reducing stress first thing in the morning, you are setting yourself up for a more productive, happier, healthier day.

Boost of feel-good hormones: Have you ever heard of the “cuddle hormone?” Oxytocin, also known as the cuddle hormone, is released during sex. Healthline suggests that “Oxytocin is the chemical in the brain that controls love and bonding. When it’s released during sex, you’ll feel more connected to your partner.” Connecting with your partner first thing in the morning can have a lasting effect on your sex life. Boost your sex life by boosting your cuddle hormones!

Your body is craving it: According to MindBodyGreen, “Since estrogen and testosterone levels are highest in the morning, this increases levels of sexual desire and makes the early hours prime for sex. According to a 2013 study, your libidois affected by your sex hormone levels, and the higher they are, the more in the mood you are.” If you wake up feeling refreshed and energized, capitalize on that! Throughout the day, there is less time and more responsibilities, so use the morning to connect with your partner with limited distractions.

While we could go on forever with the benefits of morning sex, there’s more to discuss. If you’re looking for more benefits, check out this related article in Well+Good!

From Wet Dreams to Steamy Sex

Picture this: you emerge from a deep slumber feeling refreshed and relaxed. You open your eyes to welcome the day and think, “What could be better than this?” Morning sex. Even if you aren’t a morning person, there is an undeniable energy that occurs in the A.M. hours that can’t be replicated at any other time of day. For the confidence to dive in headfirst, we have a few tips and tricks that will make your experience that much better.

Stock your nightstand: Morning breath is real, and that’s okay. Don’t let bad breath dissuade you from getting it on. Stock your nightstand with some essentials like gum, a water bottle, and deodorant. If you’re doing a full restock, include some lube, sex toys, and anything else you might need to spark the mood.

Tap into oral: Don’t wait for your partner to fully wake up to start getting in the mood. Talk to your partner to see if they are comfortable with you waking them up with oral. If they are, wake up a few minutes before them and slowly start going down on them. As they wake up and realize what that incredible sensation is, they will already be on the brink of orgasm. For some oral ideas, check out our article on 7 Creative Oral Sex Positions.

Focus on foreplay: If you have the time for a slow morning, play up the foreplay! Give your partner a bit of extra time and attention than you would normally have time for. Slow things down by taking deep breaths and focusing on the parts of your partner’s body that you typically skip over. Not only will this create a sense of calm in you, but you will also be more present and connected to your partner. Fear not. We have a few ideas for how to incorporate the best foreplay into the bedroom.

Get That Morning Wood

There are no right or wrong positions for early morning sex. Sometimes you might be in the mood for a more slow, passionate love-making session, and other times you might wake up wanting rough, fierce sex. No matter what you’re feeling, there’s a position for everyone at every hour of the day. There’s no need to push yourself in the A.M., so for a lazier sex position, Dr. Jess O’Reilly, ASTROGLIDE’s Resident Sexologist, has some ideas:

Spooning: You barely have to move, and you can use your hands for extra stimulation and take advantage of full-body contact. For spooning variations, try these:

The Side Snake: This is a spooning sex position in which one partner lies in front of the other. You benefit from head-to-toe contact, and the rear partner can breathe deeply on their lover’s neck or whisper sweet (or naughty) nothings in their ear.

The Bent Spoon: Assume a spooning position, but bend your legs so you’re almost curled up in a ball. Not only will you maintain skin contact across your bodies, but many people feel cared for in this more fetal-like position.

Lie Back and Take It: Take turns being lazy. One partner sits against the headboard with their legs bent (soles of feet on the mattress), and the other climbs down between their legs for an oral quickie.

Buzz Buzz Missionary: Wear a vibrating toy that does most of the work for you. A vibrating ring that offers stimulation to both partners is probably your best bet.

Pillow Prop: Lie on your stomach, but place a pile of pillows under your hips so that your partner can kneel behind you to slide inside. You can both let your bodies rest on the pillow pile in this low-exertion position.

The Snake: You both lie on your stomachs — one on top of the other. You can grind against the mattress or your hand while they slide inside from behind without the pressure to perform acrobatics or burn calories along the way.

For anyone looking for something deeper and more satisfying, Dr. Jess suggests these deep-penetration sex positions:

Bend Over Baby: Stand with one partner behind the other. The front partner bends over, hinging at the waist (they can hold onto a bed, chair, or counter for support), and the other slides in from behind.

Private Dancer: One partner sits on a chair or the edge of the bed, and the other straddles atop. Any position where the penetrated partner is on top can work well for deeper penetration, as they can control the angle and rhythm.

Missionary and Doggie can also be good for deeper penetration, but the positioning depends on your body. For some, the padding of the butt only allows for shallow penetration in doggie, and for others, the tummy can make it harder to penetrate more deeply in missionary. You figure out what works for your body.

There’s also nothing wrong with looking for some extra intimacy during your early morning sex sesh. We already know that early morning sex holds benefits that night sex doesn’t deliver, so tap into that mood. For intimate sex positions, Dr. Jess suggests boosting intimacy through physical connection by considering positions that create opportunities for fuller body contact.

Side-by-side: Face one another lying on your sides. You’ll benefit from head-to-toe skin contact, and you can gaze into one another’s eyes, kiss, and express your pleasure profusely.

Stand and steam: Stand in the shower and allow the steam to further heat things up. You can get down on your knees and go down on your partner or lift a leg around their waist. And of course, you can look across or up into their eyes and play with the power of engaging in eye contact and playfully looking away.

Lap dance: Sit on your partner’s lap (this applies regardless of gender) and take some time to kiss and gaze into one another’s eyes.

Now that you’re well-versed in the world of morning sex, you can start every day off on the right foot (or position, wink). Tap into your senses and you might just have the best sex of your life. Even if you weren’t a morning person before, you sure are now! Set those alarms, hydrate before bed, and sleep naked. Enjoy!
